Abstract

This paper aims to present and discuss points of interest involving the academic imagination regarding entry into and permanence in master's degree programs, especially for those interested who are hesitant to take the selection process, either because they fear the rigor of the selection and the challenges presented during the course, or because many municipalities or regions still do not have publicly and freely available stricto sensu postgraduate programs. Indeed, postgraduate programs remain somewhat elitist and scarcely distributed, considering the diverse areas of knowledge in comparison to the continental dimensions of Brazil. Therefore, it is necessary to demystify some points that seem insurmountable for those who wish to enter, as well as to report experiences during entry into and permanence in a postgraduate program (professional master's degree in teaching in basic education) and to understand the importance of teacher training in professional master's degree courses. The methodology developed for this experience report was a qualitative approach applied to a time frame from the first semester of 2025 to the first semester of 2026, with references to authors who discuss the structuring and use of narrative knowledge, as well as the critical reflective foundation of one's own trajectory. The main results achieved were the information and incorporation of academic knowledge from the selection process and educational practices during the course.
