The present work analyzed water quality, abundance and diversity of filamentous fungi in the Tocantins River, in the urban area of Imperatriz, Maranhão, identified by morphology and molecular structure. Water collections were carried out at different points on the Tocantins River, in the months of September to October 2021 (dry period) and in the months of February (rainy period), June (dry period) of 2022 and in the months of January to May 22023 (rainy season), using sterilized 500 ml glass bottles. Macro and microscopic analysis of isolated aquatic fungi allowed the identification of 8 genera of fungi (Trichoderma, Penicillium, Cladosporium, Fusarium, Aspergillus, Curvularia, Alternaria and Aphanomyces) and characteristics of hyphae and conidia. From molecular identification, were determined the species Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium expansum, Penicillium rolfsii, Cladosporium sp., Fusarium incarnatum and Trichoderma sp., all of them belonging to the Harzianum clade. Seven genera belong to the phylum Ascomycota. The presence of common fungi in soil, such as Trichoderma and Fusarium, was noticed as well.
