AVALIAÇÃO DOS NÍVEIS DE Cu e Zn NO TECIDO MUSCULAR DE Mugil gaimardianus (PISCES, OSTEICHTHYES) NO ESTUÁRIO DO RIO TIBIRI, ILHA DE SÃO LUÍS – MA

Resumo

Este trabalho fornece dados sobre os níveis de Cobre e Zinco no tecido muscular do peixe filtrador Mugil gaimardianus, amostrado no estuário do Rio Tibiri (Sul da Ilha de São Luís) no período de Agosto/96 a Fevereiro/97. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a concentração daqueles poluentes no estuário e testar a hipótese de poluição causada por efluentes e esgoto do distrito industrial de São Luís. As concentrações de Cu e Zn (peso seco) foram determinadas usando Voltametria de Redissolução e Espectrodotometria de Absorção Atômica, respectivamente, em amostras previamente digeridas em ácido a quente com mistura de ácido nítrico, água e octanol (1:1:0,05). As concentrações de cobre variaram de 0,80 a 9,76 µg/g e zinco de 4,20 a 20,30 µg/g. os resultados mostraram que as concentrações de cobre foram baixas e semelhantes aos níveis encontrados em outros estuários não poluídos. As concentrações de zinco encontram-se na faixa registrada para áreas sem contaminação, sugerindo a ausência de problemas sanitários no ecossistema investigado.

ABSTRACT

This paper provides data on levels of Cu and Zn the muscle tissue of the filter-feeding fish Mugil gaimardianus, sampled in the Tibiri River estuary (located at the south of the Island of São Luís) between August/96 and February/97. The aim of the study was to evaluate the concentration of these pollutants in the estuary and to test the hypothesis of pollutions caused by effluents and sewage from the industrial district of São Luís. The concentrations of cu and zn (dry weight) were determined using Potentiometric Stripping Analysis and atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry, respectively, in tissue samples previously digested using a solution of nitric acid, water and octanos (1:1:0,05). The concentrations of Cu in the muscle tissue ranged between 0,80 and 9,76 µg/g; zinc concentrations ranged between 4,20 and 20,30 µg/g. The results showed that Cu concentrations are low and similar to the levels found in other unpolluted estuaries. Zinc concentrations, on the other hand, were in the range reported for non-contaminated areas, suggesting the absence of public health problems in the ecosystem studied.
